Adventure Days
Our Mission
Our mission is to ensure that all children and young people in Ireland who have lost a sibling can access support regardless of location or personal circumstances.
Connection, Reflection, and Healing for Bereaved Siblings
Here at Jacinta’s Smile we aim to address the holistic needs of our clients. We recognise that counselling is just one part of addressing your grief, and we know that it may not be needed for everyone. This is why we organise outdoor Adventure Days which enable bereaved siblings to meet other youths with similar experiences. By engaging with peers, participants are encouraged to reflect and vocalise their experience of sibling loss and the impact it has had on their lives. We know that it is hard. We know that families process grief differently. We know that you have fears and aspirations which may be unspoken because of the grief you are in.
This space is for you.
Participants are encouraged to think of themselves and where they are in the grieving process. They are encouraged to think of where they want to be in life and the mind-set they need to establish to get there. They are encouraged to talk to other participants who have had similar experiences and allow themselves to be heard. Losing a sibling is far more common than most people think and we want to be there to support you.
Adventure days are informal outings. However, we do invite a guest speaker who we have found to be an inspiration on our journey. Our speaker often highlights the resilience of attendees and ‘normalises’ their experience. Each outing is organised according to the age of participants (7 – 12 year olds, 13 – 17 year olds, and 18 – 25 year olds). If you are over the age of 25 and would like to meet other individuals for an Adventure Day, please let us know and we will do our best to organise a special meet-up for you!
